What is an AI audit for a small business?

For a small business, an AI audit is a review of how the business works today that shows where AI and automation would save time or stop customers from slipping away. The phrase is also used for two other things: checking an AI system for errors, bias and compliance, and assessing whether a company’s data and staff are ready for AI.

Betterlane’s free AI audit is the first kind, for one part of the business: what happens when a customer tries to reach you. Type your website to run it.

Built only from what your public website says, plus Google’s public page-speed test. The preview is not live, and not connected to your phone or calendar. We see the website you type, your three answers and, if you leave it, your email; nothing else.

What Betterlane’s free AI audit checks

  1. Missed calls

It reads the opening hours and the phone number on your site and counts the hours a week when nobody answers.

  2. Slow replies

It looks at how your home page offers to reach you: WhatsApp, a chat, or only a form.

  3. Your website

It takes how long a phone waits for your main content, from Google’s data, and checks whether the home page has a clear next step: a call, WhatsApp, booking link or form.

  4. Three questions you answer

Whether your team wastes time looking for files, prices or past answers; copies the same information between tools; and researches leads or writes proposals by hand.

What you get

  • A Betterlane Score out of 100, with the points behind it.
  • Each check marked “losing customers here” or “looks fine”, with the line from your own site that led to it.
  • The three things to fix first, in order.
  • A working preview of an assistant built from your own pages, when your business is one that customers contact directly.

What is the Betterlane Score, and how is it worked out?

What it is not

  • It reads your public website only, the pages any visitor sees. It is not connected to your phone, your WhatsApp, your calendar or your inbox.
  • Closed hours come from the hours your site publishes. If the site lists none, that check says so instead of guessing.
  • It is not an SEO audit or a security scan: it does not look at keywords, backlinks or vulnerabilities.
  • Three of the five gaps come from your own yes-or-no answers, so they are as accurate as the answers.

Questions

Is an AI audit the same as an SEO audit?

No. An SEO audit looks at how a site ranks in search: keywords, links, technical health. An AI audit for a business looks at where work or customers are being lost and whether AI or automation would help.

Does the audit use AI?

Yes. It reads your public website with an AI model to find your hours, how customers can reach you and what your pages say, and it uses Google’s data for speed. The score itself is plain arithmetic on those findings.

How long does it take, and what does it cost?

About a minute, and it is free. There is nothing to sign up for, and leaving your email is optional.

Do I need an AI audit before hiring an AI agency?

No, but it helps to arrive with one task in mind. An audit is a quick way to see which task that is.
