WhatsApp and website assistant for UK dental practices
An assistant on the practice’s own WhatsApp number and website answers patients when reception cannot: in the evening, at weekends and in the busy hours. It answers only from what the practice approves (treatments, published private fees, opening hours, location, how to register) and offers an appointment through the practice’s booking link or a connected calendar, or takes a request that reception confirms.
It gives no diagnosis or clinical advice: any question about pain, symptoms or treatment goes to the dental team with a summary, and the patient is told how to get urgent care. It says it is automated, and the number, the Meta account and the conversations stay the practice’s.
How it works here
Answer only what the practice approved
Treatments offered, published private fees, opening hours, parking, finance options, how to register. Nothing the practice has not written down and approved.
Book through what the practice already uses
Its online booking link or a connected calendar; otherwise it records the request and reception confirms. It never claims to book inside software it is not connected to.
Clinical questions go to a person
Pain, swelling, a reaction after treatment: the assistant gives no advice, passes the question to the team with a summary and tells the patient how to get urgent care.
On WhatsApp and on the website
The same assistant on the practice’s own WhatsApp number, through Meta’s official Cloud API, and in a chat window on its website.
Reception gets a note
Every request becomes a note to reception with what the patient asked and how to reach them.
What we measured here
Our own desk count, without contacting anyone: the websites of 30 private dental practices, five in each of London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Glasgow, read on 5 October 2026. No practice is named, and a website cannot show who answers out of hours.
- 27 of 30 showed nothing that answers out of hours
- One showed a chatbot and two were unclear. Most offered a form (22) or an email address (18).
- 14 of 30 already link to WhatsApp
- Patients are invited to message. A message sent at 9 pm waits until reception opens, unless something answers it.
What it costs to run here
Two things cost money to run, whoever builds it: the model that writes the replies, billed by its provider, and Meta’s fee per delivered WhatsApp message. The prices below are Meta’s for patients with a UK number; messages patients send are free, and the website chat has no Meta fee.

When it is not worth it
- If reception already answers messages within minutes, including evenings and Saturdays, the gain is small.
- If your practice software already offers online booking and a chat that answers, use that first.
Questions
Does the assistant give dental advice?
No. It answers only practical questions the practice has approved and passes anything clinical to the team. The GDC asks that information a practice produces be accurate and not misleading, so the assistant never invents a treatment, a fee or a result.
What about patient data?
Appointment details can count as health data under UK GDPR; the ICO gives the example of health data inferred from a list of appointments. So the assistant asks only for what booking needs, says it is automated, and the practice decides what is kept and for how long.
Do you have an office in the UK?
No. Betterlane is based in Dubai and works with UK practices remotely. Calls are online, in the UK afternoon.
How long until it works?
The first flow is built free in ten days; if it does not do what was scoped, the practice pays nothing and keeps it. Running it after that is agreed before we start.
