Betterlane vs Clero: an alternative for UK dental practices

Updated Oct 6, 2026

Clero is a phone receptionist for UK dental practices: it answers calls around the clock, books straight into the practice software, calls patients to confirm and recall them, and follows the practice’s emergency protocol without giving clinical advice.

Betterlane works on written messages instead: the practice’s own WhatsApp number and a chat on its website, booking through the practice’s booking link or a connected calendar, with anything clinical passed to the team. The two can sit side by side, one on the phone and one on messages. Clero publishes no price; it quotes by call volume and number of sites.

Test it before you pay

The first flow is built free in ten days, against a scope and tests we agree with you before we start. If it does not pass them, you pay nothing and keep it.

When each one is the better choice

  • Clero when most patients phone, and you want calls answered and booked live into Dentally, Software of Excellence Exact, Aerona, CareStack or Pearl, with outbound confirmation and recall calls.
  • Betterlane when many patients would rather message than call, and you want an assistant on your own WhatsApp number and website, built and kept up for you, with the answers agreed before we build and tested through the free first flow.

What Clero and Meta state

Clero’s own site shows no price (its pricing address does not exist, 6 October 2026), so only Meta’s rate card is listed. Betterlane publishes no price either: the first flow is built free, and running it afterwards is agreed before we start.

What we measured ourselves (not client work)

Our own desk count, without contacting anyone: the websites of 30 private dental practices, five in each of London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Glasgow, read on 5 October 2026. No practice is named.

  • 14 of the 30 already linked to WhatsApp, and most offered a form (22) or an email address (18). This records what the websites offer, not what patients prefer or who answers messages.

Questions

Does Betterlane answer phone calls like Clero?

No. Betterlane’s assistant works on WhatsApp and the website. If most of your patients phone, Clero fits better; the two can work side by side.

Which one books into Dentally or SOE Exact?

Clero books directly into both, by its own site. Betterlane books through your online booking link or a connected calendar, and otherwise records the request for reception.

Does either one give clinical advice?

No. Clero says it “never gives clinical advice”; Betterlane’s assistant passes anything clinical to the team with a summary and tells the patient how to get urgent care.
