What an away message does not do

It says you are closed. It does not answer the question, offer a time or book anything: the person who wrote is still waiting until someone opens WhatsApp.

How to turn it on in WhatsApp Business

  1. Open the away message

    In the WhatsApp Business app, in the Tools tab, tap Away message and turn on “Send away message”.

  2. Paste the text

    Tap the message, delete the default text and paste what you copied here.

  3. Choose when it goes

    Always, a custom schedule, or outside business hours. The last option only appears once business hours are set in your business profile.

  4. Choose who gets it

    Everyone, everyone not in your contacts, everyone except some contacts, or only selected contacts. The phone must be online for it to be sent.

Questions

Does the away message work on regular WhatsApp?

No. It is a feature of the WhatsApp Business app, which is free, and of the official API.

Why is my away message not working?

Check that it is on, that the schedule covers the moment the message arrived, that business hours are filled in on your profile if you chose “outside business hours”, who it is set to go to, and that the phone is online.

Can I use the generated text however I like?

Yes. The text is yours: copy it, change it, use it. Nothing you type here is sent or stored.

Can an away message book an appointment?

No. It only sends a fixed text. Answering questions and offering times outside your hours takes an assistant connected to your WhatsApp.
